In the British Raj there was a district jail at South Malaka this was the place where Pandit Moti Lal Nehru was kept imprisoned, in 1930, for his leading role in the freedom movement. After independence these premises were handed over to the Medical College and the Teaching Hospital of the Medical College thus came into existence here. |

Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital
... popularly known as SRN, a 850 bedded hospital came into it's existence in late 60s. It has 35 private wards, 44 part paying wards, 5 OTs, 2 emergency wards and a post partum ward. The OPD is open from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The medicines are provided free of cost. All the investigations can be carried out here through the in-house laboratories like X-ray, ultrasound, pathology, radiology, CT-scan, colour Doppler etc.
Sarojini Naidu Children Hospital
... was established in 1968 as a specialty Pediatrics unit. It has 5 wards, 2 ICUs and 1 OT. It can accommodate 80 general and 20 ICU patients at a time. The OPD is open from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. All the investigations can be carried out here through the in-house laboratories. Recently, the dept. has started Neonatal and Pediatrics Intensive care units and portable Ultrasound facilities for sick children admitted in ICU. The dept. has plans to start Pediatrics Ophthalmology, Pediatrics Gynecology and holistic health care and child psychology units in future.
