Pharmacology department was established in 1963 by internationally renowned pharmacologist Dr. B. N. Dhawan (Founder, professor and head). Dr. V. C. Saxena was the first post graduate of the department. Subsequently the departmental chair was occupied by Dr. S. S. Mishra (later member Public Service Commission U. P) and then by Dr. S. K. Bapat (later Principal, Maharani Lakshmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi and Moti Lal Nehru Medical College Allahabad and DGME Lucknow). Both of them reached the zenith of highest position as director General of medical Education, UP. Dr. V. C. Saksena had the longest uninterrupted span extending over one third of century as a faculty and head. Meanwhile Dr. A. K. Kapoor, Dr. K. U. Ansari and Dr. Neera Kasturi contributed in uplifting the department during their able headship. Dr. Rakesh Chandra Chaurasia is present head of the department. He had obtained entire medical education MBBS, DCH & MD from the same Medical College.
